The first video game ever made dates back to 1958. Computer scientist William Higinbotham created a simulator of a simple tennis game which turned out to be the main highlight of the Brookhaven National Laboratory Open house. Gaming today is considered the cyber equivalent of the Olympic Games with an estimated revenue of $941.4 million.  Gaming (and especially online gaming) is an eSports trend that has nurtured its own athletes, prestigious global tournaments, and influencers. This has inevitably led to the emergence of a new market and as a result, new business opportunities.

PCs and gaming consoles are not the only platform of choice for eSports. Mobile multiplayer games have significantly gained popularity in recent years. Overall, as technology moves towards a deeper social engagement so do games. Pokémon Go was released in July 2016 and passed $1.2 billion in revenues in 2017. This particular game encouraged interaction between other players in the ‘real world’ in order to progress further in the game.
