Osmii are the proud sponsors and supporters of the rugby team 7 Dwarves, with Simon Gregory our senior consultant at Osmii playing for the team. The 15th August 2015 welcomed a beautiful summer’s morning, with the Dwarves arriving promptly at Abingdon RFC. After making a swift progress to the semi-final stage in 2014, only to be narrowly beaten by Belgium, we had high expectations for their tournament this year.

Throughout all five matches, the captain and coach Sam addressed the team constantly on how to build for the final. They work on weaknesses and from the start their defence was patient until the moment to kill and moved the ball well when they had possession.

Game one was error ridden in the first half, however after half time the team raised their game and their physicality in particular proved too much for the other team meaning they finished as comfy winners. Game two put the team up against another Abingdon side, this time made up of senior players. They flew out of the traps, scoring some great tries and this put them into the lead. Game 3 became the group decider as they played a welsh side from Oswestry RFC who had won their first two games as well. Though the match consisted of some awful refereeing, the 7 Dwarves didn’t let this affect them. They stuck to their game plan which saw them score three first half tries. They pulled one back but Casey raced the length of the pitch to secure the win, topping their group. They had made it into the cup semi-final. The semi-final was a nail biting game with the first half leaving the Dwarves at 7-7 at half time. In the second half they were down 7-12 but pulled it back, displaying fantastic performances from team players meaning the final score was 21-12. The final saw team player Frodo lead the team to a brilliant start, taking his chance after three minutes the team was 7-0 up. The second half continued to be successful, leaving the team as clear winners with a final score of 17-7. In other news the Baby Dwarves which are made up of talented youngsters, played in the Hertfordshire returning students tournament and narrowly lost in the final to Bishops Stortford- an excellent effort and result overall.

At Osmii we are supporters of a healthy lifestyle and we encourage all our team members to adopt it, whilst also supporting other teams follow their passion and enjoy sport. We look forward to watching the 7 Dwarves continue to succeed in the future- A massive congrats guys!!

Words from the manager- “Huge well done to all involved and to new faces in particular, some stars for the future for the Dwarves I am sure. Many thanks to Osmii and Billys Bar for making this all possible by your financial support.”
